Vaptsarov AD was established in 1925. The production activities are developing simultaneously in two directions: production of press equipment and production of turbines and shut off devices for hydroelectric stations. 

Since 1955 the company has specialized in the production of industrial air compressors. In fact, untill 1990 it was the only producer of such  equipment in Bulgaria. During this period all the industrial companies in the country used compressors produced in Vaptsarov AD.

After 1960 the company started production of forge- and press-equipment: eccentric presses, hydraulic presses, pneumatic forging hammers, shafts for bending, press-devices for dust metallurgy, equipment for production of plastic parts, stamping centers, sheet-bending machines (CNC) and cutting machines. The main markets were East European countries, Arabian countries, Latin America and Bulgaria. The production range is continuously developing and optimizing, with new modern machines being developed. At the moment the company produces new types eccentric presses with pressing force 20 - 500 tons, CE certified, hydraulic presses with pressing force up to 130 tons, sheet bending presses and machines for briquetting of bio-mass. More than 80% of production is exported to the EU market(Germany, Italy, Spain, France). The other main customers are Canada, Turkey, Arabian countries and Bulgaria.

Since 1950 another main activity has been developing - production of turbines, shut off devices and facilities for hydro-electric stations. Almost all the hydroelectric stations in Bulgaria today use turbines and shut off devices produced by Vaptsarov AD. Together with  Toshiba, Japan the company is engaged in the important project of constructing four pump-turbine aggregates for a pump-accumulating hydroelectric station Chaira in Bulgaria. Presently Vaptsarov AD is also working successfully on projects for the production of turbines and other equipment jointly with other leading world companies.

The unique equipment available to the company makes possible the production of non-standard equipment, including welding works and machining of large-sized parts.
